Since the last edition of the MERCIAN Eagle the company has been crowned HQ (Champion) Company, which is a fantastic achievement and purely down to the hard work and dedication of all members of
the company. The company has been as busy as ever this year which has been mainly focused on the COVID-19 pandemic
MTW Beach Days

At the start of the summer here in Cyprus just as the COVID-19 lockdown measures were relaxing, the OC of HQ (Champion) Company wanted something arranged to allow every member of the company to enjoy a bit of well-deserved down time and allow the various departments a chance to bond and integrate between themselves. It was decided we would look to book MTW for three days in a week in early July and everyone (no exemptions) was told they had to select a day to participate and that everything was being paid for by Coy Subs. Basically a free day at the beach with all water sports and food laid on for every
where the company provided the Chain of Command for the Rear Operations Group (ROG) when the Bn was working from home or stood down. We have also supported
the mandated inspections, training, and supporting the Regional Standby Battalion (RSB) commitment which the Bn was on since January.
Support to training continues, we have supported all companies on Ex AETOS FURY which is a CT 2 exercise, we have also supported many range packages.
The opportunity to participate in sports and Adventure Training (AT) has been severely restricted due to COVID-19, however once some of the restrictions were lifted and it was safe to do so we managed to conduct six one-day AT packages at Tunnel Beach which included numerous water sports and culminated with a BBQ each day.
member of the Coy.
During the day after the obligatory safety
brief everyone was keen to get amongst the events. These consisted of sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, power boat
and towed inflatable and a sightseeing tour of the coastline. The various events soon filled up with the obvious favourite being
the powerboat inflatables, which once
they opened the throttle up was near on impossible to cling on and most people got wet at least once. If you weren’t interested in the events or a non-swimmer you could always spend the day topping up your
tan on the beach or enjoy the volleyball,
As this year draws to a close, we will continue to plan and execute our Unit move to Weeton Barracks and in the background, we will be continuing to prepare for our upcoming Ex “ASKARI STORM” in Kenya early next year.
We can reflect on a year of frantic activity where the company has received multiple missions and tasks often with conflicting priorities, however all have been completed to the highest standards and this is a testimony to the professionalism of all those serving in HQ (Champion) Company.
We Look forward to the challenges that 2021 will bring but unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye to our LAD and Chefs who have been excellent members of the company and battalion and a pleasure to work with.
basketball or table tennis which were all very popular.
Once the water sports were finished there was a rather nice BBQ with all the trimmings served to the Coy and then everyone could then spend the afternoon going for a dip in the sea or simply sitting in the sun enjoying a beverage or two.
Overall, it was a great couple of days which everyone enjoyed and due to the success of these days the Coy organised another 3 days at various points across the summer. All these days were packed with willing volunteers and each day was as enjoyable as the last.
