YOUNG PLOTTER
Hello, my allotment friends. I’m Penny and I am now finally 8 years old. I asked Santa in February for an allotment for my Christmas present.
I didn’t want any toys, all I wanted was an allotment to grow yummy fruit and vegetables. Santa called the Allotment legend Dave. He is the best; Dave and Santa worked really hard and found me the best allotment. Dave gave me some lovely raspberry canes. Mummy and Daddy don’t get to eat the raspberries because I eat them all up.They are my favourite.
Chris, the man at allotment number 100, brought me some fairy lights for my shed and a little burner to toast marshmallows on.The man on the plot next to mine gave me some tomato plants. Colin, the chicken man, gave me an egg for my breakfast and Ian has given me his old greenhouse. Mummy’s friend at work has given me her spare seeds and I now have chilli plants. I can’t wait to make chilli jam. I have made lots of new friends at my allotment. Everyone has been so kind to me. I brought everyone donuts to say thank you for helping me.
I like to visit the allotment when it’s hot after school and at
the weekend. I love digging, especially after Daddy has used the
big machine to make the ground nice and soft. I enjoy watching
the bees use my bug house. Bees are good for the environment because they help the plants grow by pollinating them. I like to find the worms and put them in my compost bin. They are really big and very wiggly. They help the old plants and weeds to make compost.
My strawberry plants are growing big and strong, and I take my strawberries to school in my packed lunch box. I planted sweetcorn seeds and now they are taller than me. My potatoes are really yummy and mummy made roast potatoes today using them. My

pumpkin plants are taking up lots of space but I love pumpkin soup so I don’t mind. I have made a herb garden using an old sink and have planted rosemary, thyme and coriander in it. I like to use them to cook with. I also have lots of onions growing but they are still a little bit too small to dig up yet.
I collect the rainwater in my water butts because my plants like to drink lots of water. It helps them to grow. I like to spend all my pocket money on plants and seeds. On my birthday I went to the allotment and everyone sang happy birthday to me and we all shared the cake mummy made with allotment eggs. I love being on my allotment; it makes me so happy; it was the best present ever!
