THE KINGS PLOT
was soon barrowed up and moved onto the spare ground. A few days later this was spread out, so it is ready for when I want to start my winter digging later in November and December, with the aim of completing the job before Christmas if possible.
Winter vegetables are looking good. My Brussels sprouts Maximus stand almost 120cm tall and are full of good size buttons. Plants have been sprayed with a citrus
soap solution a few times to help keep the whitefly under control. Savoy cabbages and a late batch of cauliflowers were already
being harvested in October, and my Purple Sprouting broccoli plants look ver y strong and will hopefully provide a bumper harvest in the new year.
My Parsnip Gladiator are already being lifted as required and have produced some good size roots. The Carrot Eskimo, sown in June, have grown well and are already
of a good size and should keep us in tasty carrots well into the new year. As Eskimo is frost tolerant, the roots can be left in the ground all winter and be harvested as required.
I think 2024 on my plot, in the main has been a good growing season; let’s hope 2025 is just as good, if not better. Don’t forget if sowing early seeds under glass
to try our New Peat Free Seed sowing compost that I have tried and tested, giving equal results to seeds sown in peat.Wishing you all a happy and successful gardening year. Don’t forget if any NAS member has a seed problem and needs some free advice, the team at Kings Seeds are always at the end of a phone to help.
