Ex MONTE CINTO CADET was a summer mountaineer- ing trekking expedition fol-
lowing the Northern route of the
GR20, Corsica, France between
12–18 August 2018. The expedi-
tion team comprised four Officer
Cadets from Burma Company
and a Reservist Captain, the Expedition Instruc- tor who held Summer Mountain Leader (SML). Of the Officer Cadets, two were SMF qualified and intending to further their mountaineering leadership qualifications with the experience gained on this expedition.
Ex MONTE CINTO CADET presented the expedi- tion team with the opportunity to challenge them- selves in a demanding environment. This included developing some of the key attributes required of a Junior Officer such as determination, courage and leadership. For those intending to pursue their Summer Mountain Foundation (SML) quali- fication, the expedition offered Quality Mountain

Days (QMD) in a challenging over- seas setting. The route itself was very well marked and straightforward to navigate. Therefore, it was not a suit- able opportunity to deliver Distributed Training for Officer Cadets who do not currently hold a Summer Mountain Foundation (SMF) qualification.
The terrain was very arduous and required mental and physical courage and determination from all of the expedition team. The expedition also facili- tatedthedevelopmentofadditionalskillssuchas planning and teamwork to help get each other though the route, ensuring each member utilised their strengths and improved their weaknesses.
Overall, Ex MONTE CINTO CADET was thor- oughly enjoyable for all of those that partici- pated. It offered a memorable experience that each member will utilise in their early careers as Junior Officers with the soldiers under their command.
