Regional Command (UK South) Cross-Country Championships
After a quick round up on Tuesday night, RMAS managed to assemble a team of Officer Cadets to attend the RC cross- country championships held at 3 RSME, Gibral- tar Barracks, Minley. A few OCdts were conned into their attendance, only fully realising they were off to do a 10k an hour prior to stepping on the coach; it is safe to say that they were very grateful of the extra 3 hours sleep they squeezed in when waiting for the females to race. After a long nap and ample NAAFI supplies, the two individual females and the team of ten males were ready to set off, fuelled by the Sandhurst athlete’s diet of copious amounts of caffeine and chocolate. The females ran a race of 6km, with OCdt Collinson running in a time of 31:08 and OCdt Mallinson running in a time of 31:39. OCdt Collinson took home 1st place for Females U23s and OCdt Mallinson took 3rd. The males entered as a ‘major unit’ team for the 10km race, with OCdt Goble running a particularly good time of 36:00, which was 4th overall out of 178 entries.
Once soaked through from the sideways rain and caked in mud up to the knees in true cross- country fashion, everyone proceeded to assume their original positions in the ‘hasty doss harbour’, except this time with tea and biscuits. Having missed a day of Churchill Hall, the Senior Term individuals were cer-
tainly happy to have made the effort to attend – even OCdt Reynard said he thoroughly enjoyed it! Well done Team and a huge thank you to Major Knebel for organising entries and transport for the event, along- side conducting the training.
