                                   The exped deployed from Middle and from Units across the Corps. A the benefit of future Unit exped planners,
single-pitch sport and trad cragging venues are available including Citta des Sassi, Sass de Stria and Cinque Torri. These include some quality routes from 4a upwards with easy access, good admin areas and stunning views. It should be noted that access the tops of these routes are limited, so routes must be led first to set up a top-rope. There are options for self-protected abseils, and introductory MP climbs can be found at low grades with straight-forward descents. Cinque Torri stood out as a brilliant, atmospheric venue with a huge shards of rock jutting out to a spectacular position above
Wallop in early September, with the
Advance Party making the 2-day journey by road and Main Body catching up by air. Driving from Innsbruck and down the Gardena Pass into the small village of Colfosco, we were already surrounded by a lifetime’s worth of moun- taineering. Early arrival meant we had enough time to conduct recces, set up a field kitchen, issue kit and brief, ready to get out training first thing on the Monday morning.
The team was a good mixture of novices and experienced climbers, all ranks
one-to-one instructor to student ratio meant lots of flexibility and lots of personal instruction.
From the outset we quickly got hands-on with quality sport climbing in the sun (and rain!), with an intro to the fundamentals of climbing – climbing calls, belaying, equipment and climbing movement. That brought all climbers up to a good baseline and shook out all the cobwebs.
Novice climbers went on to work through their RSF TOs in some fantastic locations, while interacting with friendly locals. For
