I NEVER GET TO HEAR ABOUT THESE MEETS...
By Duncan Francis
Iran the AMA Winter Meet at Dundonnell this year, and was surprised at the number of people who got in contact
late, saying that either they ‘hadn’t had the email’ or then ‘had the email but then never got the Eventbrite invitation’. So I had a bit of a look at the AMA Email database, and the issue immediately became clear...
Firstly, there are a large number of people who have old-style military email addresses [the ones based on your appointment]. As we all know, these no longer work! If you have this email on your contact details, you won’t be getting anything from the AMA. At all.
Secondly, a lot of people have their new-style military email addresses [the ones based on your name]. If your contact details include this, you will get the initial meet emails [and other information], but the system will often reject the Eventbrite invitation emails because it contains an external link. And it won’t tell you. So you won’t know!
Of course you can find out about these things on the website, and on Facebook, orevenbyWhatsAp,butifyoureallywant to hear about meets, and especially get the Eventbrite invitations, and indeed all the other information from the AMA, then you really, really need to give your civilian
email address. The AMA will be giving the membership list a scrub as we migrate to TahDah, but we don’t know what we don’t know.
So if any of the above apply to you [basically, if you have used a military email address in your AMA contact details, or think you might have] then have a talk with the Membership Secretary, Mrs Emma Pritchard, on 01248 718364 or secretary@armymountaineer.org.uk
It would be quite useful to delete all of the old email addresses from the membership list as well, so let her now which ones you aren’t using anymore either...
