“Most importantly for me, and for those who love our wild places, is the BMC’s conservation work from their Mend our Mountains campaign to No Moor BBQs.” – Rose Gare-Simmon
“I support the BMC because of the work they do in improving access to the beautiful places I get to be in. Also, they encourage people to enjoy our outdoor spaces responsibly so they will last for future generations.” – Christabel Goode
“So, whilst I fully support the BMC in aiding access to amazing places such as the mountains of Snowdonia or the sea cliffs of Pembrokeshire, I am even more grateful for how the BMC has made it so much easier to still have proper adventures close to home” – Laura Packford, BMC Member
“The BMC has always protected the freedoms that are most important to me” – Michelle Greenall, Competition and Outdoor Coach
“Behind the scenes, dedicated climbers and hill walkers at the BMC are working hard to keep access open” – Hazel Findley
“The work that the BMC does to maintain access to these places is often forgotten and taken for granted, but without it, there would be lots of places where you wouldn't be able to climb at all” – Franco Cookson
SO, IS IT WORTH THE COST OF A MEAL OUT, A CAM OR ONE WALKING BOOT? If you climb or walk in the UK then you will almost certainly access privately owned land that is open because the BMC staff and volunteers have convinced the landowner of the benefits of letting you be
there. You don’t have to join the BMC to benefit from this but I’m sure that, like me, you’ll find that it is even better when you know that your contribution has helped.

 ANDY SYME
Andy left the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 2006 after 21 years’ service. He worked in the NHS and is now a Director of a Health Software Company. An avid climber since his teens he took full advantage of the adventurous training system when he was in the Army but now has to pay for his own trips, usually bouldering or ice climbing in Europe. He became BMC President in 2021.
