that give up their weekend to provide quality instruction and the members who attend, making each meet worthwhile. As the Meets Co-ordinator I am always after people who are willing to organise and run a meet. Please do get in touch if you are interested in volunteering. I have outlined what to expect from the forecast of events for 2022, however, if you would like to organise and run something different then get in touch and we’ll make it possible.
LOOK FORWARD TO 2022
Lake District Meet (22-24 April 2022)
At the time of writing, the AMA’s first weekend meet had yet to happen.
This meet will take place in the White Horse Inn near Keswick where we have their 26-berth bunkhouse booked. The bunkhouse is newly refurbished and is situated at the back of the White Horse Inn, a quintessential country pub. The White Horse Inn is at the base of Blencathra and a short 15-minute drive from Borrowdale and the ever-popular Shepherd’s Crag. The bunkhouse is a self-catering facility with a kitchen and a communal dining area. Those attending will be expected to bring their own food and prepare their own meals. However, the pub does serve excellent food from 12-9pm every day.
North Wales Meet (20-22 May 2022, 8-10 July 2022 and TBC September 2022) North Wales is a very popular destination due to the sheer volume of walking, climbing and scrambling available in a relatively small area. In May, July and possibly September the AMA will run a weekend meet from The Nuffield Centre, JSMTC Indefatigable in Anglesey. We have the families’ accommodation booked and space for up to 20. As this is the families’ accommodation, bedding will be provided and breakfast and a packed lunch available from JSMTC cookhouse. At the North Wales meet it is traditional to book a table at The Penrhos Arms in the village of Llanfairpwll. https://nuffiledanglesey.org.uk
Yorkshire Dales Meet (10-12 June 2022)
In June we have booked The Old School Bunkhouse at the foot of Ingleborough and Whernside, a 6-minute drive from the awesome limestone crag of Twistleton Scar. This meet will be a fantastic opportunity to walk and climb without having to venture too far from the accom-
modation. The Old School Bunkhouse sleeps 26 in 6x bunk rooms, and is a self-catering facility with a fully equipment kitchen diner. The Old Hill Inn is only a 2-minute walk up the road offering traditional home cooked food. https://www.oldschoolbunkhouse.co.uk
Peak District Meet (22-24 July 2022)
The Peak District offers a myriad of single pitch grit stone and limestone climbing. In July we will base ourselves out of the Old Shippon and The Byre bunkhouses, part of Thorpe Farm. The old Shippon sleeps 32 and The Byre sleeps an additional 10; meaning the Peak District meet has the potential to see 42 AMA members spending the weekend only a 7-minute drive from Stanage Edge, arguably one of the finest gritstone edges in the UK. Thorpe Farm Bunk Houses are self-ca- tering facilities with the nearby town of Hathersage offering a selection of pubs and takeaways. https://thorpe-bunk.co.uk/old- shippon/
Wye Valley Meet (14-16 October 2022)
In October we will return to the Wye Valley with 20 beds booked at the Wye Valley YHA in the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean. The accommodation has been booked for B&B with a packed lunch and bedding provided. The hostel is only a 15-minute drive from Symonds Yat, a limestone crag boasting idyllic sur- roundings and a variety of features. This meet will be ideal for those based out of the South of England or Wales but is of course open to all. https://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha- wye-valley
