Ranger Medics providing BCD training to GAF ASOB
PROJECT OGUN
ROTO 10 saw Team 2 from A Coy,
1 RANGER deploy on Pj OGUN
from April until Nov 23, where they were to relieve C Coy, 1 RANGER, of responsibilities with the Ghanaian Army Special Operations Brigade (GAF ASOB).
The Project has been in effect
for several iterations and has been
a driving factor for the growth of
a solid relationship between the Ghanian Army and the British Army. The mission of 1 RANGER is to provide training and partnership to the GAF ASOB in line with their Concept of Employment as they progress through the implementation of their Special Operations force into their Army structure.
This deployment saw the team deliver several specialist courses. This included the first iteration of the GAF ASOB Operator’s Development Course (ODC) which was designed and executed by the team’s JNCOs and received highly commendable feedback from the GAF ASOB Commander for the quality of the course and the professional attitude and conduct of the UK Rangers.
The deployment also saw 1 RANGER sponsor two teams from GAF ASOB to compete in Ex CAMBRIAN PATROL 23. This included a 6-week training package, delivered in both Ghana
and the UK, to enable success for the partner force during the patrol
A Coy Rangers instructing GAF operators in vehicle contact drills
competition. This training was also designed and executed by the team’s JNCOs, and their hard work paid off when both GAF ASOB patrols received bronze medals for their efforts on the exercise.
Overall, the deployment was successful, and a series of outcomes were achieved during the team’s seven months in country. Namely the effective delivery of high
quality of training to our partners, key relationships strengthened and developed across the network and strategic level influence between the governments of Ghana and the UK.
It is a clear example of why junior leaders are the driving force of our concept
Most importantly, the deployment was an example of the capability
and talent of the JNCOs within our organisation. Fully entrusted and enabled with mission command, the JNCOs of A Coy, 1 RANGER, delivered exceptionally well on Pj OGUN and have set conditions for bigger and better activities in the future. It is a clear example of why junior leaders are the driving force of our concept and should be granted such freedoms and opportunities to deliver – as they so effectively do.
