global project which seeks to educate people on ocean sustain- ability whilst helping clean the world’s beaches and oceans. On the more challenging end of the spectrum a team have competed in the Paras 10 race in Wales – a 10 mile race with 20kg which mimics one of the tests conducted during P Company, and, we have sent a team to complete in the Spean Bridge Commando Speed march – a race which re-traces the 7 mile route that the original commandos undertook during the Second World War, going from a quiet rural train station to the first Commando Train- ing Centre in Achnacarry House in the Scottish Highlands. Later in the year we have a team entering the Ten Tors challenge, the Cambrian Patrol and the year will end with a team walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall.
B Battery’s proud history of sporting success has continued with Captain Marcus Webb’s selection to represent Team GB at this year’s Biathlon World Championships. Captain Webb continues to train hard and represent both the Army and Team GB at a vari- ety of events. In addition, Gunner Brooks, a member of the Army Offshore Racing Team, entered the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s Round Britain and Ireland Race, 2022. This race represents the pinnacle of Army sport in terms of competitive intensity, difficulty and endurance as a non-stop 1800 nautical mile race around Britain, Ireland and all outlying islands. The yacht Fujitsu British Soldier took 14.5 days to complete the course, racing against 23 yachts crewed by some outstanding sailors, including Olympic medallists and Volvo Ocean Race veterans, and finished a very credible 8th overall.
With more freedoms to meet and celebrate as the UK govern- ment has released restrictions imposed as part of the COVID-19 response, it has allowed B Battery to celebrate the Battery birth-

day (1 Feb 1793) and Sahagun day (Battle of Sahagún 21 Dec 1808) again. This past year has included a formal dinner in Salis- bury to celebrate Sahagun day, organised by the JNCOs and an informal sports competition followed by a barbecue to celebrate the Battery’s 229th birthday.
To conclude, as an Armoured Artillery battery – B Bty exists to find and kill people and things, at range, in support of the 1RRF Bat- tlegroup. The War in Ukraine, along with our upcoming deploy- ment, has renewed our focus and determination to be the best battery that we can be. The Battery is relishing the opportunity to go through the collective training pipeline again and renew our links and commitments with the 1RRF Battlegroup.
