1 RHA Welfare Team WO2 P Keast
It’s been another busy year for the Welfare team as we continue to support 1 RHA personnel and their families during busy peri- ods and deployments.
Throughout the year the Welfare team have continued to provide events and activities for families with funding provided by the Regiment and the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund.
In December, the team organised a coach trip to London for families to enjoy Hyde Park Winter Wonderland which had a great uptake from families and some living in personnel and was enjoyed by all who attended. At Easter, the Welfare teams within Larkhill worked together to provide a Colouring competition with prizes and an easter egg hunt for children within the Garrison. Just before the Regiment broke up for Summer Leave, we were able to provide a trip to Legoland which was very popular and highly enjoyable.
We continued to offer a family pass for Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm throughout the first half of the year before securing a family pass to the Four Kingdoms adventure Park to allow our families to enjoy a local attraction at a discounted rate. Throughout the year as a team, we have also supported AWS community events during the school holidays with a range of activities including Sports and a trip during the easter holidays to GO Ape at Moors Valley country Park and to Bournemouth Beach during the Sum- mer. Coffee Mornings have also become a regular fixture again
this year with the Larkhill Garrison Coffee morning taking place every Wednesday at St Barbara’s Hall which are a great oppor- tunity to socialise, meet new people and speak to your welfare team staff.
This year we have also been fortunate enough to secure a welfare house in Larkhill for use by 1 RHA personnel and families which allows cheap accommodation for visiting families from further afield and allow single parents a space to enjoy with their chil- dren. The house is fully furnished and ready to use and has been massively popular and a great asset for the regiment.
The Welfare team have had a number of personnel come and go throughout the last year having bid goodbye to Major V A Wors- ley RHA to his new post on Promotion to Lieutenant Colonel as Commandant and Senior Training Safety Officer SPTA. Capt D Dallollio then stepped in moving from QM(T) into the role of the Unit Welfare Officer for a period before moving on to prepare for leaving the Army in Nov and we wish him the best of luck. In July we welcomed Major J S Harvard RHA as he takes up post of the Unit welfare officer.
During this period, we have also bid farewell to SSgt Charlton who has left the Army after 22 years of service and we wish him all the best for the future. Mrs Sue Rennie also left the team to move onto her new post as the Movements clerk for 47 RA.
There are still several events that will take place before the year is out with the Welfare team assisting in the provision of the Larkh- ill garrison Children’s Halloween party and already planning the Children’s Christmas party.
The next year looks to be as busy as ever with the Regiment once again taking its turn on the OP CABRIT rotation next year with E Bty due to deploy first in March 2023. This will be a challenging time and the welfare team will be on hand to continue to support 1 RHA personnel and families throughout this period.
