SWY Wing ATC Promotion for Dan
By CI Kira Thompson
We are delighted to announce that Daniel Davis has successfully passed a Wing board and has been promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant. Dan joined the squadron in 2016 as a Cadet Warrant Officer. He became a civilian instructor and then was appointed as an adult Senior Non-Commissioned Officer at the rank of Sergeant in June 2018.
Since then, he has worked very hard to develop his skills and has become a specialist adventure training instructor. He has qualifications in kayaking, mountain biking and walking, having attended numerous courses and camps. He is also a qualified mountain bike mechanic and has a key role in providing adventure training courses to staff and cadets at both wing and regional level.
He completed the first ever RAFAC Coast to Coast Mountain biking expedition in 2016 as a CWO and then went on to instruct a team on the next expedition in 2019.
Dan was instrumental in preparing the squadron to reopen following the COVID-19 pandemic and organized the virtual parade night programme. In addition to his RAFAC responsibilities he is now in his 3rd Year as a student paramedic.
Congratulations Dan we are very proud of you!

Police visit to 185 (Batley) Squadron
By CI Kira Thompson
Recently the cadets at 185 (Batley) squadron received a visit from West Yorkshire Police; and enjoyed meeting two Police Officers from Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team!
The visit included getting to go in the Police Van, trying on their uniform and learning about the functions of different equipment. This was
a great opportunity for the cadets to explore other careers which play a big role in helping the community in addition to giving them a greater understanding of the role of a police officer.
Big thanks to both officers who attended
and explained the vital role they play within the local community! Also a special thanks to CI Will Newton, a police officer himself, for organising the visit.
