WING COMPETITION DAY 2023
400+ Air Cadets from all over the Wing came together in early July at RAF Leeming for a day
of competitions and fun at the Wing Competition Day. The day provides the opportunity for all 31 Squadrons to come together in a full day of activities ranging from media, through to leadership, drill, STEM and First Aid, together with shooting and modelling.
With eight competitions running simultaneously at various locations around the station, both staff and cadets were kept busy running around and being in the right place at the right time.
Finally after a long and challenging day the Wing formed up on the Sports Field for the presentation of the trophies.
In the First Aid competition the winning team was 2434 (Church Fenton) Squadron, whilst the Media Communications competition was won by 152 (City of Hull) Squadron. The Aero Modelling competition was won by 2434 (Church Fenton) Squadron, and 2487 (Easingwold) Squadron won the Leadership competition, with 866 (Immingham) Squadron taking the honours at STEM; thankfully, as the competition was held indoors the burden was not filled with water!
58 (Harrogate) Squadron put in a winning team in the drill competition, whilst the Best NCO was judged to be CWO Adam Lill of 2487 (Easingwold)

Addressing the final parade, RAF Leeming Station Commander, Group Captain Gareth Prendergast commented on how high the standards of the competitors had been and how keenly the events had been contested. He said, βIt always gives me immense pride to be involved with so many young people of such high calibre who I have seen and met today. Congratulations to the winners and also to all of you who took part to make this a truly memorable day.β
The Wing Officer Commanding, Wing Commander Aaron Waters added, βI would wish to thank all the judges and staff who worked all day to make the day a success. This event takes a huge amount of work during the day and beforehand to make it all run smoothly. I am sure you have enjoyed the first Wing Competition Day held since 2019 and thank you all for all your efforts.β
