                                 Kidderminster Branch
The Branch wished to recognise the debt that we owed to the men of Kidderminster who left the Town to serve in the Great War and also the important role the ‘Shrubbery’ played in the life of the 7th Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment TF and much later B Company Mercian Volunteers,
its successors. The Shrubbery is now a Residential Home and it was decided, with the agreement of the Mangers of the Home
that the Branch would install a bench and
a flowering tree in the garden in front of the home. The Presentation and Dedication
of the Bench and Tree at the Shrubbery Home took place on Saturday 19th July. Bad weather caused the presentation and commemoration to be held inside. We were able to retire to the new Drill Hall thanks
to the generosity of the caretaker. There was a large gathering for the event, led by the Mayor of Kidderminster and members of organisations from the town. The WFR Association attended with their standard, members and families of the Kidderminster Branch of the Mercian Regimental Association, the manager, residents and staff of the Home. The dedication service was led by Mr Ian Strongman, Reader from St Mary’s Church Kidderminster, who is also an ex Member of Mercian Volunteers.
The Branch has attended many engagements with the standard. In particularly the arrival of Enid at the guildhall Worcester at the end of her charity walk
for the Mercian Regiment Welfare Fund,
the Burma Star commemoration of the 69th Anniversary of VJ Day at Bromsgrove on August 16th, a book launch at Lye commemorating the lives the soldiers who did not return and the Armed Forces Stone memorial at the Wrye Forest Crematorium.
In addition to the monthly meetings the Branch engages in other activities. There are regular walks, golf days and recently they held a Clay pigeon shoot at Tyddesley Wood Range. Keith Newman and friends kindly organised this very successful day. Ted Rowley and ‘Pedro’ Newman were the eventual winners at the end of day. Branch took to the water in late August with an evening cruise on the Stourbridge Canal. From all accounts it was a very enjoyable evening with a fish and chip supper and
