We welcome into the regiment the following of cers who commissioned on 11th December 2015:
2Lt Josh Baldwin: Josh comes from Gloucestershire and was educated at Cheltenham College and Newcastle University where he graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science and where he was an active member of the UOTC, completing the Reserves Commissioning Course and leading a sailing expedition. He is an avid cyclist and triathlete, has cycled the Anapurna Circuit solo and captained the college Rowing Club and Water polo team. He also enjoys scuba diving and is a RYA Day Skipper. Josh joined 1RIFLES.
2Lt Tom Brash: Tom comes from Northampton although, as his father left the Royal Engineers after 6 years and went into oil, he has spent some time in Dubai. He was educated at Old Swinford Hospital and Durham University where he graduated with a 2:1 in Archeology and Ancient Civilisations focussing on drone aerial photography and successfully designed and built a drone to photo- graph Anglo Saxon sites in Northumbria. He also worked for an oil company based in Trinidad and Tobago during his third year. He organised tours with his university college rugby team to Ireland, Lithuania and the Czech Republic and has raced lasers although his passion is mountain biking . Tom joined 3RIFLES.
2Lt Charlie Davis: Charlie comes from Norfolk and was educated at Wayland Academy and Northampton University where he graduated with a 2:1 in Geography. During his Gap Year, he worked for a childrens’ charity in Botswana for 12 months running a centre for street children. He captained his university football team and was also in his school rugby team and enjoys skiing, hill walking and fell running. He was in the UOTC and spent some time on Reserve service with The Royal Anglians. Charlie joined 3RIFLES.
2Lt Matt Dryburgh: Matt was born in Cardiff but his family lived in various different part of the UK and in Brunei as his father was in the RAF. He was educated at Monmouth School and is intending to complete a degree in Sport and Exercise Science with the Open University having completed over two years at Oxford Brooks. He rowed at National level for the school 2nd VIII and was secretary of the Boat Club. He also gained an Army Scholarship while at school. He was a member of the Oxford UOTC and did an alpine mountaineering expedition and 10 day ski touring expedition. He gained a Reserve Commission and was a platoon commander with 3R WELSH for eighteen months exercising in Kenya and Spain with them. Matt joins 2RIFLES.
2Lt Tom Lane: Tom was born in Northamptonshire but was educated at Hillcrest School, Nairobi and then Anglia Ruskin University where he gained a 2:1 in Wildlife Biology due to his passion for African Wildlife. He joined the Cambridge UOTC and also gained a Reserve Commission and spent some time working for the Adjutant on a full time basis which included planning for ood risk management in Cambridgeshire and a short spell as a platoon commander with 3Royal Anglians. His other passions are rugby and cricket both of which he has played for his county. Tom joined 4RIFLES.
2Lt Michael Macbeth: Michael comes from Glasgow and attended Glasgow Academy before reading International Business
at Glasgow Caledonian University. He developed a passion for rugby from an early age and made his debut for West of Scotland Rugby Club 1st XV in Scotland’s Premier One Championship at the age of seventeen. At that time he was playing alongside a number of British Lions players. He also plays football and tennis competitively and enjoys skiing and golf. He also enjoys hiking and has completed the Camino de Santiago. Michael joined the 5RIFLES.
2Lt Ben Udy: Ben comes from London and was educated at Alleyn’s School and Durham University where he graduated with a 2:1 in History and completed his Masters in the history of terrorism and religion in British Africa dividing his time between Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and SOAS. He has compete in numerous sports for school and college including hockey, cricket, rowing and athletics, raced at the British ski championships and has been involved with the theatre, Scottish reeling and riding with the Avon Vale Hunt. His Gap Year was spent playing Polo in Buenos Aires and skiing in Whistler, Canada. Ben has joined 4RIFLES.

2Lt Max Burns: Max comes from Alresford near Winchetser. He was educated at Peter Symonds College in Winchester and then went to Shef eld University gaining a 2:2 in Civil Engineering. At Peter Symonds he captained the 2nd XV rugby team and also tutored rst year Maths students. He represented his university in Lacrosse and gained his Summer Mountain Leadership quali - cation. He planned and executed a cycle trip to Istanbul covering 2,800 miles and has worked on a trout farm and at his local brewery. His father was in the Royal Engineers and Max has a cousin in The Ri es. Max joined 1RIFLES.
2Lt George Fisher: George was schooled in Saudi Arabia until the age of 14 when he went to Dauntseys. He decided not to go to university and spent 18 months working around Britain and doing a series of adventurous trips. At school he was a keen athlete and cross country runner and completed the Devizes to Westminster kayak marathon. He has also competed in fell running across Britain. He worked as crew on a tall ship for 2 months and led a 500 mile trek along the length of the Colorado Trail. He then spent 6 months with his girlfriend hitchhiking from Patagonia to Peru and then met up with their bicycles to pedal from Mexico to the Canadian border. At the time of writing, they are still friends! George joined 1RIFLES.
2Lt Luke Kemp: Luke comes from West Sussex and was educated at Chichester High School and the London School of Economics where he gained a 2:2 in Social Policy and Criminology. Disap- pointed with his degree he then went to University College London and completed a Masters in Countering Organisational Crime and Terrorism gaining a Distinction. He was in the Army and Police Cadets and spent some time working for Crimestoppers. He took a Gap Year which he spent mainly travelling in South East Asia (from China to Nepal) and went to Everst Base Camp and motorcycled the Ho Chi Minh Trail and was in the university hockey team at LSE. Luke joined 5RIFLES.
