including adventure training, sport and education. On French snow, 3 RIFLES teams performed well at the infantry skiing competition, with highly competitive performances in both the Alpine and Nordic disciplines. Meanwhile the football team continues to grow in strength; winning the Tri-Service Scottish league, competing well in the Army and Infantry Cups and also conducting a successful tour to Spain. The battalion has encouraged the Ri emen to invest in themselves, with Standard Learning Credits being spent on courses that are only limited by their imagi- nation. The Ri emen have seized this opportunity, including independently organising their own adventure training expedition to Aviemore; a trend we hope to see continue.
In sum, the last year has been diverse, challenging and deeply interesting – proving time after time that if you are professional, exible and ready, opportunities as a Ri eman in any rank are boundless. Edinburgh continues to be an excellent rm base for our families and provides an ideal launch pad for operations and training wherever we are required.
As always we
remain forward
looking and the
focus is rmly on our conversion to a Light Mechanised Infantry battalion. Next year will certainly be as diverse and as busy as this year with training and other commitments, but the battalion has demon- strated this year that
it is ready to rise to any challenge and overcome it with style. Lt Col Richard
