Salamanca Day and Royal Visit
This year, the Third Battalion was obliged to number of soldiers and
celebrate Salamanca Day early on the 13th of July due to leave and the impending Op TEMPERER commitment. The day happily coincided with the Pass Off of the IPJNCO Cadre.
Events started with a presentation on the battle to the entire battalion, which although light on precise facts and gures, passed on the mechanics of the battle while allowing the platoon commanders to engage their theatrical side, not least of all their desire to wear fancy dress!
The battalion then turned out to watch the Potential Junior Non-Commissioned Of cer Pass Out Parade, accompanied by the Band and Bugles. We were honoured to have HRH Princess Alexandra in her capacity as Royal Colonel of the Battalion to take the salute.
Her Royal Highness also opened the recently re-located Corporals’ Mess in front of the newly promoted corporals and their families. She also visited the community centre, where she met a
their families. She was
presented with a bouquet
of owers by Grace (9) and Tom
Turner (5), children of Rfn Turner from Fire Support Company.
The Welfare Of ce dug out blind and converted the top eld to an amusement park, complete with funfair, beer tent and BBQ. It was not all smiles though with the UWO Capt Dave Bell visibly disappointed when told that the face painting was only for children.
That evening the Band and Bugles played a Sounding Retreat for guests of the battalion, to say thank you to local members of the Edinburgh community that support us. Guests included representatives of Colinton Community Council, The Trades of Edinburgh and the Royal Company of Archers as well as members of Army in Scotland.
