heading out on the ground, a key part of route planning and group safety. Arriving at the bottom of the Carnedd Llewelyn, the group prepared to head off and went on the first leg of the jour- ney. This trek was going to be using all the skills learnt up to now and helped the members of the group look at the ground ahead on the maps and plan out how they were going to avoid certain features, like small river or stream crossings, or paths with par- ticularly loose rocks and sunken areas on their ascent. Arriving at their destination they set up camp and prepared their meals for the evening, enjoying cooked, tin spam wraps and super noodles.

through the clouds and avoid the same crossings and marshy areas they did on their ascent the previous day.
Overall, the 5-day Distributed Training package was enjoyed by all members and they passed with flying colours, giving all that took part a Junior Summer Mountain Leaders qualification, allowing them to pursue this aspect of their careers further down the line. The instructor provided a great and safe, controlled environment for them to learn, challenge and push themselves in, as well as regain and master skills they may or may not have already had and the course was well received. If you are interested in gaining confidence in map reading, navigation or just in gen- eral, or even looking to further a civilian or military career, then this course is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
