independently completed the Tour de Mont Blanc and since then has sailed in the Arctic, mountaineered in Kyrgystan and quali ed as a sky diver. At Sandhurst he represented the Academy in the Army Cross Country Championships and was a member of the Sandhurst Cup Team at West Point. He was a JUO with his UOTC and an Army Bursar. Harry joins 4RIFLES.
2Lt Dan Smith: Dan comes from Cheshire and was educated at Knutsford High School and Shef eld University where he gained a 2:1 in History. At university he was captain of the Cross Country team and tried his hand at many sports with the UOTC including badminton which he played at county level and polo. He also enjoys skiing and trekking. After graduating he worked on a farm, then moved to Leatherhead to work as a legal secretary for a solicitors  rm before working in a garden centre while pursuing his Army application. At University he was in the UOTC and joined the Army Reserves with the Queen’s Own Yeomanry. Dan joins 5RIFLES.
2Lt Ben Upton: Ben comes from Salisbury and was educated at Canford and Exeter where he graduated with a 2:1 in History. He comes from a military background as both his parents were in the military. His uncle (Chris Lodge) was in the Light Infantry. During his Gap Year, he worked at a prep school and then spent 7 months backpacking around South East Asia. His main interest is hockey being in the 1st XI for all three years at University, captained the side and was vice president in his  nal year, gained a level 2 coaching quali cation and played for Havant HC on his Gap Year and various county and regional teams. He also plays cricket to a good standard having played for South Wilts CC and Wilts U18s. Ben joins 4RIFLES.
2Lt Callum Welch: Callum comes from Buckinghamshire and was educated at Bedford School where he was Head of House and a member of the CCF and Portsmouth University where he graduated with a Merit Degree in Civil Engineering. He has been involved in a wide variety of sports including rowing, squash and kayaking and at Sandhurst organised a Nordic Skiing expedition, mountaineering in America and in Corsica. He has a secret passion for ballroom dancing which is now not so secret! He was an Army Bursar while at University and a member of the Southampton OTC. Callum joins 1RIFLES.
2Lt Phil Williams: Phil comes from Weaverham in Cheshire and was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Nottingham University where he gained a 2:1 in History. While at school, he represented his county at badminton and the North of England U18s at rugby. He took a Gap Year to play semi-professional rugby for the Manly Marlins and to travel the continent. At University, he continued his rugby playing for the 1st XV and captaining them in the second at third years, winning the Universities Rugby Trophy. After University, and before going to Sandhurst, he spent a year as an account manager for an IT software company and playing semi-professional rugby for Maccles eld and the National League 1. Phil joins 2RIFLES.
