holistic testing and training. A proportionate representation from each role group was sought, over-sampling females as a minority cohort was achieved despite 4 of the 21 role groups not having female representation for impact analysis.
I cannot emphasize the importance of
the Lone Soldier PT Programme (LSPTP)
as a key enabler to achieving 3 x 50min of PT per week. It is particularly relevant to those within non-deployable or standalone subunits without regular access to one
or many of the following: infrastructure, resources, appropriately qualified instructors, or those without regular planned/structured PT sessions during the working day.
PD development and the requirement
for personnel to maintain levels of physical conditioning become ever more challenging to maintain, something I am also exposed
to whilst working within DPHC myself. It
is of the highest importance not only from commanders, but also individuals to take accountability and become familiar with the LSPTS. The programme supports the Army Physical Training System (APTS). It provides a structured PT programme for individuals to follow when they are separated from
their Unit for long periods of time. It ensures
all the components of fitness are being developed, in accordance with the APTS. The LSPTP must be issued by an in-date PTI1 and can be downloaded from the AKX on MoDNet and Defence Connect.
That said, the emphasis initially sits with you, the individual, some general health questions you could ask yourself:
“Is my BMI optimal, or am I over/under weight?” (What are you doing about this?) “Do I take regular breaks away from my
workstation/place during the day?” (If no, why not, how could you improve this?)
“Do I work through my lunch/tea breaks”
(If yes, why? Could you manage your time better to incorporate more movement/posture changes?)
“Do I do any of the following: smoke/vape, eat an unbalanced diet, skip meals, drink excess amounts of alcohol/caffeine?” (Could I reduce any of these and or improve in other areas of my individual health?)
I also recommend that you exploit the “My Army Fitness App” which can be found on the DLE, as an application. This is YOUR contemporary
interactive mobile fitness application. It gives you flexibility to train correctly when away from your unit or have no access to collective and supervised PT. Using the principles of the Army Physical Training System (APTS), the My Army Fitness App ensures your physical training is structured and holistic. Algorithms will tailor and optimise your programme. You’ll be able to track fitness gains by recording your performance, seeing tangible progression and improvements across all the components of fitness. More competitive? Then you will be able to test yourself against other service personnel by undertaking the monthly challenges. This is YOUR modern world class mobile fitness App. It is here to support you in developing and maintaining your fitness levels so that you can fulfil your role and operational fitness requirements in support of the British Army’s capability.
Be The Best!
