RADC
Regimental
Secretary
Introduction
Lisa Grannells
I gratefully assumed the position of Regimental Secretary for the Royal Army Dental Corps (RADC) on Monday 2nd October 2023, following an 8 month recruitment campaign from March to September (plus an additional calamitous fractured arm after falling from height at a fitness competition in the summer which resulted in no driving until October). Now a few months in, I can reflect and relay in my own words that I am embracing working with RADC personnel past and present and our Army Medical Service (AMS) colleagues. I have been warmly welcomed by all.
I continue to enjoy the challenges of
my new professional environment and I remain committed to continuing the legacy of excellence set by my predecessors. As
a perpetual student of life I acknowledge there is more to learn, and room to grow. For now, I am continuing to draw on the robust network and unwavering support structure the RADC culture promotes
(past and present). My goal is to focus on effective outcomes, whilst collaborating
on old and new processes and retaining RADC traditions and heritage. I seek to improve the stream of communication for the whole RADC community using the existing software programmes in MoD, all of which should support future outcomes in supporting the RADC family within the structure of the AMS.
My own journey with the RADC spans over 17 years, beginning in 2007 after returning from maternity leave, I worked with the formally named ‘Defence Dental Services’ (DDS) in Aldershot, Minley, Sandhurst, Pirbright and Windsor Dental Centres, contracted as a Locum Dental Nurse before a band 3, then a band 4 dental nurse in Aldershot.
As a lead CDN I coordinated Enhanced Practitioner Periodontal clinics and Maxillo- Facial and Oral Surgery clinics on a
referral basis pan DPHC (D). I have worked alongside many remarkable and aspiring members in DPHC and the RADC, all of which have provided enriching and fulfilling professional experiences. In 2018, after 15 years in the Dental Nursing profession a fresh opportunity emerged as a vacancy for ‘Regional Admin Officer’ (RAO) within

the London and South DPHC (D) Regional Headquarters (RHQ) became available
and I managed to secure this new and exciting promotional position, which lead me away from a patient-facing duties, clinical work and nursing altogether and provided a step onto the Civil Service career ladder, broadening my horizons within the organisational structure and operational business model with strategic people services.
One year in, as I was evolving professionally, our small department of 5 personnel supporting and leading a vast region of 150 people reduced significantly across the region, when arose opportunity to turn my hand to something new, Permanent Civilian Recruitment and humbly recruiting
a much needed temporary workforce into DPHC (which if you are still reading and absorbing, you’ll note this is where my journey began) an almost career circle. I began advising in Human Resource matters, after all ‘people and policy’ is where I envisioned my career going from patient
to people care. I have a deep rooted and instilled desire to develop and support myself and others, the experience as Recruitment and Resource Officer, whilst at times was very demanding, returned in great reward, further extending my experience in people services.
I have a history of working closely
with many serving RADC colleagues in
the corps. I look forward to deepening existing connections and establishing
new ones, driven by the strength of the RADC community. Beyond my professional life I can be found around friends, family and sports inside and out, whether at a basketball game cheering on my teenage son or participating in some form of movement; weightlifting, wild swimming, big family walks. I enjoy and view life in
a philosophical way, determined to find balance and rejuvenation amidst a dynamic career, and fulfilling family life.
