• Coronary and heart disease (CHD) is the UK’s biggest killer
• Around 86,000 die of a heart attack
• Every 6 minutes someone dies of a heart attack
• 1 in 3 people who have a heart attack die before reaching the hospital
• Heart and circulatory disease claims around 200,000 lives each year
• Around 720,000 people are living with heart failure in the UK today • 400,000 are men
• 320,000 are women
• Around 2.6 million people in the UK are living with CHD
• More than 1 in 3 deaths each year are from CHD
• There are about 1.4 million people over 35 in the UK who have
survived a heart attack
• Smoking causes around 25,000 deaths from CHD each year
• Only 40% of men and 28% of women in England do the recommended
amount of exercise
