STRATFORD SECONDARY & ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Apprenticeship-
The Students Become the Teachers
Tyler Pogson, Grade 12
Stratford Secondary & Elementary School
Tyler is currently working at Contract Framing Group for his 4 credit co-op program. He is a registered Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program participant as a General Carpenter and his interest and skill in the trade is obvious.
Tyler’s interest in construction grew while taking various tech courses in grades 10 & 11, and peaked during his 2 credit co-op placement last year with Teahen Construction in Stratford. When considering his options for placements this year, Contract Framing Group was a natural fit. They have a growing crew of employees, and have been an outstanding community partner with the cooperative education program in Stratford for many years.

The ultimate goal for Tyler is to become a licenced General Carpenter. He has always enjoyed working with his hands, and has been given meaningful tasks on the job site from the beginning of his placement.
Dylan Francis, a Northwestern Alumni works on the same crew as Tyler. Dylan graduated last year and is signed as a General Carpenter. He hopes to be going for his Level 1 training early in the new year. His experience in co-op, OYAP and the apprenticeship process has been outstanding. Thanks to Dylan taking advantage of these programs, he is on the pathway to become a licenced carpenter in his early 20’s. Dylan’s experience and guidance has had a significant impact on Tyler this semester.
