Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I get married, have a baby or adopt a child?
If you wish to add eligible dependents to your coverage, log on to UKG within 30 days of the life status change. If you do not complete this enrollment within 30 days, you will not be permitted to make a change until the next annual enrollment period.
What should I do if I get divorced or one of my dependents passes away or loses eligibility?
If you need to drop a dependent from coverage due to a life status change, log on to UKG and update your benefit elections using the Life Event profile. If applicable, a COBRA notification will be sent to you and/or your ineligible dependent offering continuation of coverage under the KIPP NYC health plan. Supporting documentation is required.
How do I find participating doctors or dentists in my plan?
You can locate a doctor/facility/dentist in a variety of ways:
• Visit www.cigna.com or www.mycigna.com once your coverage is effective for a more customized experience to locate a medical or dental provider.
• Visit www.vsp.com to locate a vision provider.
• Or call the member services numbers listed on the
Contacts Page of this Benefits Guide.
What if I have funds remaining in my Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at the end of the plan year?
KIPP NYC has adopted the 21⁄2 month “grace period.” Under the grace period, your unused balance at the end of the plan year is rolled over into the next plan year. You will be able to incur claims during the next plan year for 21⁄2 months against your unused balance from the prior year. You must incur claims by March 15 of the following year to be used against your unused balance from the prior year.
Can I change my FSA election?
You cannot change your FSA election mid-year unless you experience a life status change (marriage, birth of a child, divorce). The election change must be consistent with the event. For example, if your child care needs change, you may change your dependent care FSA election. If you adopt a child and you are enrolled in the healthcare FSA, you may increase your FSA election. A benefits reduction is not consistent with the event.
What happens to my parking/transit elections if I don’t use them?
Parking and transit elections remain in your account if you don’t use them. The money rolls forward from month to month until you stop contributing or leave the KIPP NYC. If you leave KIPP NYC, you will have until the end of the month following the month you terminate to request reimbursement of unused parking funds. Per Federal IRS regulations, employees must use their debit cards to pay for all transit expenses incurred through date of termination.
How does the prescription drug mail order pro- gram work and what is the benefit of using it?
If you are on a maintenance medication or any medication you take on a regular basis, you can receive a three month supply of prescriptions, delivered directly to your home, for 2 times the retail pharmacy copay. Obtain a 90 day prescription from your provider and submit to the mail-order pharmacy, or order prescription refills online through www. cigna.com or www.mycigna.com.
What do I do if I have a claim issue?
If you receive a bill, contact the Benefit Advocate Center at 844.905.0433.
