 MONTH 2: FOUNDING DOCUMENTS (Varies by State)
Apply for IRS Employer Identification Number (EIN)
File Articles of Incorporation (separate application fee)
Apply for IRS Exemption - 501(c)(3)
Apply/Register for State Exemption Application
Submit Solicitation of Contributions Registration Application (separate application fee)
 MONTH 3: FINANCING & ORGANIZATIONAL POLICIES
Research Best Banking Options & Promotions
Create Board Development Documents for Recruitment
Establish Signing Authority Among Officers
Open Bank Account
Create Basic Financial Plan
Create a 1-3 year Budget
Develop Fiscal Policy
Set-up Financial Software (i.e. Quickbooks - separate fee)
Establish Accounting Policies/Periods & Select Accountant
Create Organization Bylaws
Develop Conflict of Interest Policy
Develop Records Retention Policy
Obtain Organization Insurance: general liability, property, professional responsibility (if applicable), sexual abuse (if applicable), volunteer, and non-owned auto liability (if applicable).
