DECLUTTER
It’s easy to let the boundaries between home and work life blur, especially if you’re working in a space not usually dedicated to working like the dining area. Clear as much as you can away; in another room if possible, to reduce distractions - even better if you’re able to assign a space specifically for office use. If you don’t have a whole room to spare, a curtain or screen separator can work wonders to make you feel like you really have left your office at the end of the day.
ADD A SCENT
All of our senses come into play to establish a positive environment so smell can affect your mood too. A scented candle can add a touch of luxury while enhancing the aroma of your office space. Light it when you’re working so you associate the smell with work mode. If you have too many loose papers for that to be practical, essential oils or a room spray can be another option. Scents to look out for include lemon for concentration, and lavender for its calming properties.
COLOUR
Particular colours have been shown to have an impact on our mood. Yellow and green are linked to positivity and are best used in creative environments. Red is conducive to energy, but can be overwhelming so best used in moderation, while blue evokes feelings of relaxation and tranquillity. This doesn’t mean you have to get the paint brush out; some cushions, a throw or a rug would do the trick too.
STATIONERY
There’s no reason to
leave the excitement
of stationery shopping behind with your school days. Treat yourself to
a luxury pen or a fresh notebook, and you’ll soon be eager to get back to work.
