4 Great Lakes Logging • Expo Edition 2025
WELCOME
There will be some big changes coming to Great Lakes Logging in
the near future, but we won’t be a part of them.
I — Ilsa Minor, the designer and assignment coordinator for this
publication as well as sometimes-writer and photographer — and
Brian Rowell — the mastermind who first envisioned a publication
aimed at the fine people of the forest products industry — are both
leaving Great Lakes Logging. This is our final issue.
It is also the final issue for Noah Johnson. His name has graced
these pages for a couple of years now, and we’re saddened that this
is the last time we’ll be reading his articles on the forest products
industry. We’re sure his future is bright.
Brian and I have been together since this magazine launched in
2012, back when it was Great Lakes Logging Quarterly. It was a
name that never made much sense, as we always published a fifth
issue to celebrate the GLTPA’s Great Lakes Logging and Heavy
Equipment Expo. Back then, the Expo was still called the “Logging
Congress.” I guess we both needed some rebranding.
We were newspaper folks. Paper is in our blood, and it was a true
privilege to get to know the stories of the people behind it.
Like the logging industry, the world of print publications has
changed a lot since 2012. I can’t say we’ll be gone forever, but at
least for now, this is where we get off.
Thank you for reading Great Lakes Logging Magazine.
