NEWSLETTER Summer 2017
From the President of Council
Something for everyone
under the sun!
Greetings fellow residents,
Once again, warmer weather is here bringing with it lawn and landscaping chores, along with more pleasant outdoor activities like walking, biking, and other summer sports.
May 18th marks the opening of the 10th season of Green Tree’s Farmers Market in the Park. Held every Thursday in the lower parking lot of Green Tree Park from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., the market features fresh produce, baked goods, and prepared food items that you can eat on site or take home. You can also purchase bedding plants, vegetable plants and hanging baskets during the rst few weeks. Drop off knives and garden tools for sharpening on the rst Thursday of each month.
The Green Tree Summer Concert Series begins on June 29th with long time Green Tree favorite, Jamie Wright. The lineup this year includes Penguins’ anthem singer Jeff Jimerson and his band, Airborne, on August 10th. See the complete concert schedule inside this newsletter.
The parklet at the entrance to Rook is nearly complete and will be dedicated in the near future with the installation of a plaque designed by the Green Tree Historical Society outlining the fascinating history of that area. Also, the dek hockey rink improvements are complete and it has recently been reopened for use.
You may have noticed street paving activity in the borough recently. Whereas paving typically happens in the fall, 2016’s paving was delayed due to incomplete utility line work in some areas scheduled to be paved. Council decided to combine 2016 and 2017 paving work and have it done this spring. The successful bidder from last year held their pricing and agreed to perform the additional work, thus saving our taxpayers the additional expense of re-advertising and rebidding.
At its April 3rd meeting, Council adopted an ordinance designating most borough parks as tobacco-free areas. Keeping our children and others free from the health hazards of tobacco is an important step in our Live Well Green Tree program. Smoking is permitted in the parking lots. The Green Tree Athletic Association has a full complement of ball teams playing in our parks this summer. Ranging from instructional to highly competitive baseball, as well as fast- and slow-pitch softball, you can catch a game and enjoy the concession stand offerings almost any eve- ning or weekend.
Wilson Park Pool opens on May 27th! Season passes can be purchased at the administrative of ce or you can walk in with a daily cash entrance fee. The Great White Sharks swim team will once again be taking to the water for several meets against local rivals. Check out their webpage at www.greentreeboro.com/swimteam.php for more information.
Get out and enjoy all that Green Tree has to offer!
