We at About the Town love literature, which is why when we received some poetry submissions from Maureen Bold, a Skelmersdale local and poet, we simply had to share! So sit back with a hot drink and enjoy

Between Me, the Wind and the Acorns
This is dead of winter and a weary world recoils. These are the days of frozen hearts and cold numb minds. Days and nights of marble whiteness and stillness and you ask yourself “is this another season between
a season and a season?
And is there a reason? Surely there’s a reason
why winter time this time is lame and limping along dragging itself to a crawl yet not releasing its grip?
And then you start to daydream looking towards the sky and you drift into that dreamcrossed twilight between reason and season and these are the days when an aftersnow sky is a fine porcelain bowl.
Dovegrey in the morning filled with snow not fallen and a fine golden line on the horizon.
A shaft of sunlight and a dazzling display of diamond dust never seen before.
Amethyst in the evening ribboned with moonbeams and a trillion shimmering stars.
A shooting star darts across the sky like quicksilver never seen before.
Glimpses of absolute beauty made more beautiful by absolute silence
and a silent prayer takes flight.
And you dream that winter runs out of time.
