Help your Kids to Tap Away their Anxiety
Anxiety affects us all from time to time, and more than ever it’s also affecting our children. After the upheavals of the last year and a half, an increasing number of children are now suffering from anxiety and poor mental health.
Tapping is a really effective way to help your kids with anxiety. It’s easy to learn and teaching them to tap will provide them with a valuable resource to deal with anxiety and stressful situations and to empower them throughout their lives. You can tap on yourself and they can copy, or, with their permission, you can tap on them.
So, here’s how you can start helping your kids.
It’s useful to create a sliding scale so that they can gauge how they are feeling, giving a point of reference to compare to after the tapping. It’s usually helpful to give them something visual. You can easily make something like this.

To begin with create a set up statement such as, ‘even though I feel angry/sad/bad about .......... I’m a great kid, and I’m safe’ (they can use their own words to fill in the blank). The first part should be about the negative feeling, and the second, a positive self-love statement about themselves. Tapping on the side of one hand continuously, repeat the statement three times.
Next, using one or two fingers work through the tapping points in the diagram in order, about 6-8 taps on each spot starting at the eyebrow, from top to bottom, and back up to the top of the head. Do this three times while saying little reminder phrases, keep them short. These could be whatever comes into the child’s mind as they tap, ‘I don’t like how I feel’, ‘no-one likes me in school’, ‘I’m scared’. It doesn’t matter if the same phrases get repeated.
After three rounds check in with the scale again
and see how much better they feel. If necessary, repeat the exercise until the feelings have gone.
