This workshop is designed to address the history of white women and the ways their socialization has perpetuated white supremacist tropes, like ‘Karen,’ ‘Becky,’ and the ‘Damsel in Distress.’ The workshop will call out the ways white women choose race over gender progression because of a commitment to whiteness. Avakian will invite the participants to re-imagine ways white women can be co-conspirators for the sake of justice as it relates to race.
This workshop addresses the psychological experience that happens when one’s truth is in tension with an experience as it relates to racism. We claim this as a spiritual awakening. It is designed to provide a pastoral guide that encourages one to lean into the vulnerable journey of unlearning to relearn for the sake of justice, as it relates to race.
This workshop will address white privilege, how whiteness gives advantages to white people and takes away opportunities (land, dreams, money, mental effort, etc.) from BIPOC communities and what it does to one’s humanity. It will also deal with the false concept of ‘white fragility’ in order to address the real issue of white entitlement, and help to re-imagine what it means to be a white co-conspirator, using your white privilege for the sake of justice, as it relates to race.
