I remember going to the Obermann-Beck Reunion with Grandma Parma Strothman when I was small. Aunt Ber- tha and Uncle Frank Gault, Joyce and Lucille picked up Grandma and I. We started early, as Aunt Bertha wanted to stop and shop at Schramm’s before going to Crapo Park in Burlington. Just think what an effort was made to at- tend the reunion back then. Aunt Bertha lived near Craw- fordsville. They got up early, did their farm chores, packed a basket of food and dressed in their Sunday best. The re- union table would be laden with tasty dishes. There were no coolers in those days. I don’t know how they kept food hot or cold. The car was hot, the roads dusty and it was a slow trip. One could expect a flat tire. But the reunion was an important event in their lives, and they made every ef- fort to attend.

I remember how much fun Vera Gulick, Mabel Wind, Etta Bergdahl, Gladys Twinam and other cousins had at the reunions. They lived close together and played together as kids, so knew each other well. They would tell stories and joke and laugh — it was a regular circus. They all had a great sense of humor.
