Continuous Learning @ Somersfield Academy -- Distance Education Done Differently

                                    Requirements of Upper Primary Students (P5 and P6)


                 Upper          Establishing a daily routine is very important.  Before school starts each day, be sure
                 Primary        you do the following things:
                 Morning
                 Routine               Breakfast.  Eat a solid breakfast.  This will give you the energy you need to
                 (7:45-8:45)           focus on your goals for the day.
                                       Movement.  If you have time, go for a quick walk or play outside.  Get the
                                       body moving before you move on to your studies.
                                       Mindful Moment.  If you’re a fan of mindfulness, here’s a great chance to do
                                       a mindful activity.  Perform a “Take 5” or do some mindful breathing.
                                       Get dressed.  It’s important you get dressed for the day. Although you aren’t
                                       wearing school uniform at home, a change of clothes each morning reminds
                                       you to get ready for a day of hard work.
                                       Workstation.  Give your workstation a tidy.  Gather your materials and have
                                       everything ready before 8:45am.


                 Morning        Here are the first things you should do at the start of each school day:
                 Check-in
                 (8:45-9:00)           Turn on your computer

                                       Log into Managebac
                                             Read the daily messages your teachers have posted.  This will take
                                               a few minutes.  Keep the Messages screen available so you can re-
                                               check throughout the day

                                       Check your schedule
                                             Get your schedule out and find out what subjects are happening
                                             If you’re not sure, check in with your parents

                                       Open Microsoft Teams and get into your P5 or P6 Homeroom Teacher Team
                                       You will meet with your homeroom teacher from 8:45-9:00 each morning
                                             Your homeroom teacher will take the attendance and go over the
                                               plan for the day
                                             Once you are in your Homeroom Team, wait for instructions from the
                                               teacher

                 Upper          Here are a few key things to remember:
                 Primary
                 Students –            The school day start at 8:45am and ends at 3:25pm
                 Your Daily            Each day (Monday-Friday) has different lessons.  You need to check your
                 Lessons               schedule each day and follow it closely.
                                       Each day, there will be a combination of lessons.  Some lessons will be:
                                             “Live”.  A “live” lesson means you will be working in real time with
                                               your teacher using Teams and other tools.  For example, on
                                               Tuesdays you might have a Visual Arts lesson with Mrs. Toogood
                                               from 11:30am-12:10pm that is “live”.
                                             Work Periods.  A work period is different than a “live” lesson.  The
                                               teacher won’t be available during a work period.  You are
                                               responsible to:
