“LIGNUM is the name given to my expressive research
(translation of the word wood in the Latin language). An approach to painting cre- ated by 'existential instincts' with lines of force that extend into space, generating vibra- tions, contrasts and relationships between the parts. Often the signs wander in the pictorial field deprived of a rational guide, in other cases they are measured, almost drawn. The rare images inserted in my works are 'fragments of life,' memories or introspection and the need to communicate painting between abstraction and conceptuality. The pictorial field contains a flow of natural numbers capable of expressing quantity, abstraction, order or disorder of our life. I use mainly wood for my works, a natural material that I appreciate for its deforma- tions, defects, and color. It can be as heavy and compact as solid wood, transparent and fragile as veneer, or light and resistant as plywood. The supports used are obtained by re- using joinery waste, appropriately recomposed and glued, but I also like to look for materi- als modeled by nature, in particular from the sea, wind and sun. I 'can violate' this material with incisions, punctures, abrasions, punching, etc. Wood always dialogues with color in the form of sign, gesture and matter, or other materials as papier collé, twine, gauze that to- gether make up my expressive universe."
