“My work is is is focused on the the human figure There is is is always a a a a a a a a a a a body a a a a a a a a a a a face That is is is the the the excuse the the the starting point A A basis of portraits and poses upon which to to to experiment And in in in in the the process to to to tell a a a a a a a a a small story I work almost exclusively in in in in in in oil and and charcoal painting and and drawing sometimes using collage—often with unorthodox materials I like the the direct contact that these techniques provide and to use them in in in combination usually leaves ample scope for for randomness It is is is essential that that the the work retains a a a a a a a a a a dose of surprise for for myself Perhaps that that that is is is why I I I don’t do do do sketches I I understand that that the work gains freshness with uncertainty I am interested in in in in the the the small changes that can be made surrounding the the the the everyday the the the the unveiling of the the the the apparent To carry this out out I make cutouts—giving emphasis to to to the the uniqueness that the the human figure holds for for me—and various pictorial gestures which can provide a a a a a a a a greater field for for fantasy ”
