I Am the Mountain – Lingering Presence

After attaining her graduate degree in Art from Stanford University, Bennett studied independently with renowned artist Richard Dieben- korn. She has taught art at the College of Notre Damein Belmont, CA. Her weaving experience led to her conducting over 200 symposia, lectures, keynote addresses, demonstrations and workshops at museums, univer- sities, conferences and weaving guilds across the country, on the art of Navajo textiles in their historic and cultural context. She founded the Navajo Textile Restoration Center in Corrales, NM; and Shared Horizons, a non- profit educational organization dedicated to research and public education on Navajo textile arts. She has taught at the University of New Mexico in Gallup. Bennett’s exhibits include most recently, solo shows at the Inter- national Art Museum of America, San Francisco, CA; and Sandoval County Historical Society and Museum, Bernalillo, NM. Recent and upcoming press includes Magazine 43, Land Escape Art Review, and Apricity Magazine. She is recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts grant and she spearhead- ed the hands-on building of A Place in the Wild – Gentle Architecture for Fragile, Natural Places. Addressing how to build and live gently in natural areas, this work is ongoing.
