“My work is almost exclusively based on car parts and car
infrastructure. While I was a resident artist at a college in 2005, I discovered car parts that are mass produced in an
incredible variety, with built-in complexity. During the pandemic, I began exploring assemblage— constructions using my sculpture, paintings and masks—which I then photographed. I have discov- ered that altering images digitally complements
my response-based creative process which has no preconceived story or image in mind. Through a kind of dance with car parts, I follow the ghost of a direction to bring, in the case of a mask, a character into being. Similar processes are used in my paint- ings and in the digital editions. I believe there are too many cars in the world and the damage done is far more than just environmental. In many of these images, you can see the built (bricks), the natural (gravel), and painted or sculpted backgrounds.”
