Editor’s Note
Congratulations to our awardees in our 2017 WTP literary and ne art competitions. A big thank you to our judges Richard Malinsky and DeWitt Henry, both who proved astute in their evaluations and thoughtful in their nal decisions.

as rst place is in memorial to my mother, Elizabeth Sloan Tyler, it is truly tting that the award is a retreat in her Hamptons home where for thirty years she painted some of her most nuanced and complex works. WTP
is in large part her legacy, and I’ve often talked about how my aesthetics as an editor have been shaped by her own as an artist. How I am forever indebted to her for teaching me how to “see.” This though, nally may be misleading–I was not so much “taught” as immersed in her sensibility as an artist, for all of my growing up, and then when we regularly attended art openings where she would consider other artists’ works as carefully as she would her own canvases. She imbued in me the intuitive; I know good art when I see it, though I may not always be able to explain why. I don’t think I could be the editor I am today, of both the literary and ne art, without having been my mother’s daughter.
Enjoy here art and the literary by turns illuminating and thoughtful. May you consider these works with care, and walk away feeling inspired.
