St. John attended Toledo University as an archeology student where he became interested in drawing and attended various classes at the Toledo Museum of Art School of Design. In 1981, he transferred to the Cleveland Institute of Art where he earned his BFA. During his years at The Cleveland Institute, he spent
a year abroad at L’ecloe des beaux arts in Lacoste, France, and SACI Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy. In 1985, he moved to Lacoste, France to work as a teaching assistant in painting. Over the last few years, he has exhibited his work in numerous galleries, juried exhibitions, and his work can be found in various private collections.
