Barragão’s fiber-art techniques
are based on ancestral textile
The Botanical Tapestry is an installation at Heathrow Airport, UK. Made of jute, cotton, and recycled wool, it took more than 520 hours to weave.This art piece represents the world map, with the colors of all the continents and oceans, as well as of endangered plants and species of coral reefs.
 practices like latch hook, crochet, felt, weaving, embroidery, and macrame. All the materials are the leftovers and dead-
stocks from Portuguese factories, and the yarns are subjected to a cleaning and selection process. Barragão focuses on ancestral techniques and upcycling wastes to emphasize the importance of preserving handmade pro- cesses to help preserve the planet.
