“These paintings of abstracted representation examine the layered complexity of daily life. They are a convergence
of two distinct points of view. This outside/in vision is a middle ground, representing visual depth in a simple scene. The idea for these paintings extends a narrative conceived during the pandemic. Familiar views out from the windows of my home, began to take on new meaning. While exploring these vistas at dawn or dusk to capture the fleeting natural light, I saw that the outside view included the reflection on window glass of the interior room behind me. Both views, inside and out, were captured together at
the same time, in the same frame. Over time, this series has developed in complexity: the outside views and inside reflections illuminate the visual delicacy and detail of everyday life. These complex compositions mine the spaces of our daily lives. I think of these paintings as a way to visually communicate intricacy through simplicity, my connection to place, literally and metaphorically. They are puzzles of our layered existence—for what surrounds us, but we don’t always see—and the mystery it holds.”
