“Icreate surreal figurative oil paintings as psychological maps to process and
investigate the interconnectedness of our inner and outer worlds.
My studio process begins with journaling and automatic drawing, organic repetitive lines inspired by wood grain patterns. I’m fas- cinated by how these natural patterns are similar to muscle struc- tures and biological forms in the body as well as to our complex relationship with trees. I then transfer the most emotionally im- pactful drawings to canvas or paper, to bring intimate, personal thoughts to a platform for presentation. This is a practice of vul- nerability and acts as a metaphor for personal empowerment.
My characters find dialogue with each other on the canvas, creat- ing psychological maps that consider alternative perspectives. The different perspectives attempt to find a balance to process com- plex emotions and help gain a deeper sense of self awareness. The figures in the paintings are androgynous nude women who are free of sexualization and liberated from societal norms.
I aspire to offer viewers a dreamscape—a space for introspection on fragility, beauty, and the interconnected nature of our exis- tence. I hope this will help to embolden ideas of women’s rights, social and environmental justice. Creating art is my way of healing and hoping for a more compassionate and equitable future.”
