Dwellings similarly explores that
tension between a desired sta-
bility of a xed environment and the
opposing force of shifting placeless-
ness. The series is composed of 20
mixed-media drawings set in sardine cans found on
daily walks and travels. Mask-like faces appear to
conceal their true nature. The presence of characters implanted within found objects may communicate a sense of containment and intimacy not found in the unframed works of paper. A “dwelling” or home is associated with per- manence, stability, and a sense of place. Flores’s dwellings, however, are not static but instead are constantly moving; their material property is a product of a cycle of being found, used, recycled, and remade: ultimately uid.
