During our second site visit to
Lisbon, we didn’t even ask for our
coffee or tea to be “take away.”
Perhaps I never will again. Instead,
I took the simple pleasure of
watching the first light of dawn
wash over the terracotta rooftops,
as the ancient city slowly emerged
from its slumber. As Holly Harwell
perfectly captured it, breakfast in
Lisbon feels more civilized—an
experience savored slowly, with
intention.
In the distance, the soft murmur
of the Tagus River carried the
echoes of a city that has welcomed
explorers, artists, and dreamers for
centuries. And next summer, this
timeless city will welcome us, as we
