We gathered video messages from loved ones and coaches that couldn’t celebrate the day with us in person, so that she would know they were with her. Our montage ranged from touching tributes to the blooper reel, and everything in between.
Graduation
F rom the moment I was handed that beautiful little pink bundle, my mind reeled with images of all her big life events that I would celebrate as her mama. I envisioned that glorious playlist of first steps, school days, toothless grins, little toes in the sand on vacation, visits with Santa, sporting events, chasing boys, and high
school graduation. Ah, Graduation!
Even though the rational brain knows that there is no end date to being a parent, Graduation Day in many ways becomes symbolic of a pseudo finish line. If we can get those precious little bundles to that goal post, to that big glorious day, we have somehow punched our ticket and accomplished the mission – the mission of raising an amazing little human. From those first moments, the eye is on the prize as we strive to guide these little creatures we are entrusted with to that magical day. We preach to study hard. Play all the sports. Join all the clubs. Eat all the veggies. Be kind. Do all the good things, so that one day, said bundle might flip that tassel and collect a diploma, flying into the next chapter as a contributing young adult.
