FDCC
CONNECT:
SEND US YOUR
NOMINATIONS!
By John Mitchell
All of us understand and appreciate the obvious benefits of membership in the FDCC:
the camaraderie and fellowship, the privilege of associating with high-caliber attorneys, the exotic locations of our meetings, and the outstanding quality of our CLE courses. We have, collectively, built an outstanding organization that celebrates the best the legal profession has to offer. All of us are proud of our membership in the FDCC, and rightly so.
Another benefit of our membership that does not get anywhere near the recognition that it deserves is our ability to refer matters to other FDCC members. All of us have had matters from our most important clients that we could not handle and were forced to send to other counsel. Thankfully, membership in the FDCC provides us with a tailor-made roster of outstanding attorneys that are ready, willing, and able to meet our clients’
needs. When a referral is made, we’re comforted that our clients’ most important cases will be handled by our FDCC colleagues as if we were handling them. Our colleagues will provide our clients the same thoughtful advice, the same attention to detail, and the
same client responsiveness that we provide in the same situation.
Often, these referrals can have career-altering benefits for the recipients. On many occasions, referring a client or making an introduction can lead to a new matter or significant work being sent to the receiving lawyer. Our lawyers have referred significant cases or made introductions to new clients that, in some instances, resulted in millions of dollars of new business. In other cases, because of a significant referral or introduction, our members have been able to leave their current firms and start their own practices, enabling them to control their own destiny and achieve greater work- life balance. This referral network is not a primary purpose of our group but a happy by-product of our membership in such a great organization.
We think it is appropriate to recognize those referring attorneys who so richly assist their colleagues, and the FDCC Connect award is designed to recognize and celebrate those lawyers willing to help
their FDCC colleagues grow their practices. But we rely on you to tell us who those lawyers are. Simply put, without you reaching out to us, we cannot identify those who refer business and how those referrals have impacted the recipients of those referrals.
So please, if you have received a referral in the past year, please let the FDCC Connect Committee know of this referral. Please identify the referring lawyer
or lawyers, pass along a brief description of the referral, describe how that referral has impacted your practice, and make sure that the referring attorney receives the credit that he or she deserves. This is not the time to be modest. Instead, let’s celebrate our referring members and make sure that they are nominated for the FDCC Connect award.
Please send your nominations
to FDCC Defense Counsel John
