Deposition Drills How to Teach Deposition Skills
Using Technology
Technology is becoming more pervasive in depositions and at trial. Learning what technology is available and how best to use it can give an attorney a distinct advantage before a judge and jury.
EXPLANATION
Participants learn available technology to use at a deposition and how best to use it.
EXERCISE
Ask participants to research the available technology for use at depositions. What platforms, software and apps are available? What hardware is available? What do they do? How do they work? What is their cost? Unlike the other exercises, this is an open discussion about what technology is available, how it can be used in depositions and whether it should be used in depositions.
LESSONS LEARNED
More and more, technology is bleeding into depositions. Judges and juries have become accustomed to new technology and those who know how to use it to better represent their clients are at an advantage. Having an open discussion about technology and how best
to use it improves a firm’s use of technology, not only in depositions, but at hearings and at trials.
A FEW QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS
What is the latest and most popular law tech?
How is technology being used in depositions? At trial?
How can you use technology to secure the facts and admissions you want?
How can you go overboard with technology? When is it better to forego technology in a deposition?
