presentation based on his recent book Legal Writing:
A Judge’s Perspective on the Science and Rhetoric of the Written Word. There were also important judicial panel discussions on the proposed amendments to Federal Rule of Evidence 702, explaining in-depth the gatekeeping role of the courts in evaluating expert testimony; public confidence in the judiciary and the rule of law; racial justice and equity in state courts; and judicial ethics in the context of social media and the courts. The feedback from the judges in attendance was overwhelmingly positive. It was impressive to witness the enthusiasm of the judges as they participated in
the program and to hear their praises concerning the quality of the presentations.
This year’s Judicial Symposium, which will be held in Washington, D.C. this summer, is in the final planning stages. Please let your state appellate judges know about the Symposium and please encourage them to attend.
For eighteen years, state appellate court judges and state supreme court justices from more than forty states have come together at the NFJE Annual Judicial Symposium to share legal knowledge and promote the continued administration of justice.
In addition to being a proud and active FDCC member, it is my privilege this year to serve as the President of the NFJE. I thank all of you for your generous contributions as they enable the NFJE to further its mission to support a strong, independent, and responsive judiciary, enhancing the goal of ensuring judicial excellence and fairness for all engaged in the judicial process.
