                                                      CELEBRATING NAIDOC
Basketball WA celebrated NAIDOC in 2023 with a basketball carnival on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 July. The event aligned with the NAIDOC message of “For our Elders!”
In 2023 we saw teams come from all over Western Australia, with Rene and his group from Leonora to Michael and the teams from Geraldton, it was fantastic to see such a diverse number of athletes in attendance.
The Welcome to Country was delivered by Nigel Wilkes Senior and Alice Kearing with Mungart Yongah performing the traditional dance to open the Carnival.
The carnival supported multiple age divisions starting with U14’s and finishing with U18’s. Round Robin games were played across both days, with finals held on the second day.
On the second day, there was also a 3-point Contest for U16, U18 and U25's and a very successful Dunk contest for U18 and U25's.
The event was well received by the communities and also saw the inclusion of extra activities, with activations in the foyer.
A special thank you to the Team Coordinators for their efforts in bringing their teams together on this annual celebration, along with everyone involved in organising the event.
Thank you also to our sponsors Healthway, DLGSC and Belt Up - Insurance Commission of WA.
